Hello! My name is Jean and I am an MB-PhD in Cancer Sciences candidate, funded by Cancer Research UK. I started writing online after my first year with a friend, sharing our experiences as international students/Medicine applicants.
It is a very unique position being an international student, no matter which part of the world you are in. I believe that international students are overlooked when it comes to Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion efforts, in particular in Medicine as we form a small proportion of total student numbers due to restricted student quotas in medical schools.
My experience applying for Medicine and settling into the UK was lonely and isolating; that appeared to be a common theme among international peers in my cohort. I hope to change that by writing on this website, for starters. My outreach efforts are focussed on both international aspiring medics and current medical students - I hope you discover something of use to you here!
My current interests include oncology, surgery, research, the international student experience, and leadership.
